Robin Laverty Reves, board member

Robin and her husband, John, moved to Nevada City from the Bay Area in 2012.  As season ticket subscribers of San Francisco Symphony for thirty years, they were thrilled to discover the wonderful third Sunday concerts presented by InConcert Sierra.  They were grateful to have moved to a community that values and supports the arts of such high quality.

As a young girl in Siskiyou County, Robin enjoyed watching her father spin jazz 78 records in the radio studio at KWSD. Her family enjoyed attending annual summer concerts at the Peter Britt Music Festival in Jacksonville and plays at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon.  This began a life of loving classical concerts, ballet, and opera.

Robin, a speech-language pathologist, believes that beautiful music touches us deeply by awakening the emotional brain and stimulating the neuro-cognitive structures accessing memory and language.  She has regularly included music and lyrics in therapy with preschool students to develop language skills and has used melodic intonation therapy with adult clients with aphasia.  She retired from the Orinda Union School District as director of special services for students with a broad range of disabilities but has returned to clinical therapy services with children.

In addition to participating in school district board meetings, Robin has served on other boards of directors in her professional life.  She has been inspired to volunteer on two committees for InConcert Sierra. Being able to work behind the scenes to achieve the mission of InConcert Sierra with such wonderful colleagues is a joy.

Robin loves hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, and kayaking.  She enjoys book club, movies, shopping at the farmer’s market and cooking.   When John and Robin travel, they often attend classical concerts and plays in other locales.
