Liz McKay – bookkeeper
Liz McKay grew up in New Zealand where, at an early age, she developed a love of music, playing piano, viola and, eventually, harpsichord in an early music ensemble. After attending university, she worked for five years as a history researcher and then took time off for extended travel – as many Kiwis do – to live and work in London. While there, she met her husband, who was on a business trip from California, and so she never quite made it back to New Zealand.
In 1989, Liz moved with her family from Idyllwild in Southern California to Grass Valley where she volunteered at Union Hill School and, later, with the AFS exchange student program. She also played viola in the Sierra College Orchestra for a number of years. Liz has worked locally as an administrator and bookkeeper in various fields, but primarily – for 15 years – as associate director for the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalition. After retiring from this position in 2014, she was happy to return to the workforce and her musical roots when offered the part-time position of bookkeeper at InConcert Sierra in 2016.
When not working, Liz enjoys traveling with her husband Derek – a cross country ski enthusiast and coach – on trips that combine visits to family and friends, ski races and concerts.
