September 17, 2017 – InConcert Sierra Orchestra – Greatest Hits, Vol. 5
Conducted by Ken Hardin, this marks the 5th season of showcasing the ICS Orchestra in its popular concert presenting audience-selected favorites (and a chance to sponsor musician chairs as our annual fundraiser.)
The program is made up of movements from best-loved musical pieces, for example, last season the selections included favorites such as Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Waltz, several choices from Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite and Pavane for a Dead Princess, and Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain (known by many from Disney’s Fantasia) to name just a few. Send in YOUR suggestions!
*October 22, 2017 – VOCES8 (Note: this is the fourth Sunday – see note below)
(After booking VOCES8, the group needed to change its tour dates. Because Music in the Mountains has a Friday, Oct 13 concert scheduled with the Sacramento Philharmonic and The Center for the Arts has a Sunday, Oct 15 program with Garrison Keillor, we decided it would be best for our audience to move our October date this season from the “Third Sunday” to the fourth Sunday. We apologize for any confusion.)
*November 19, 2017 – Spencer Myer, piano
Lauded for “superb playing” and “poised, alert musicianship” by The Boston Globe and labeled “definitely a man to watch” by London’s The Independent, the consummate artist Spencer Myer returns to an enthusiastic ICS audience. He is an amazing artist with a remarkable human spirit, and he never disappoints!
December 16, 2017 (7:30pm) • December 17, 2017 (2pm) – Sierra Master Chorale & Orchestra – Holiday Concerts
Conducted by InConcert Sierra’s Artistic Director Ken Hardin, the SMC and Orchestra will be making spirits bright for the holidays! This is always one of those concerts from which you leave full of the spirit of the season and with a smile on your face.
The Sierra Master Chorale is an auditioned high-level community choir with 80 singers. The chorale always performs with the InConcert Sierra Orchestra, which is comprised of local and regional regional musicians, including Concertmaster Richard Altenbach.
*January 21, 2018 – Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center
The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center is widely known for its extraordinary quality performances with the opportunity to hear the world’s foremost chamber musicians. This riveting program will juxtapose two musical giants of Romanticism: Antonin Dvořák and Johannes Brahms.
*February 18, 2018 – Bridget Kibbey, harp – Baroque Project
Prizewinning harpist Bridget Kibbey returns to InConcert joined by early-music violinist Siwoo Kim and recorder-player Priscilla Hereid, for a delicate and intimate afternoon of Baroque music artistry.
*March 18, 2018 – Drew Peterson, American Pianist Association Competition Winner
This will mark our tenth anniversary of collaborating with the prestigious American Pianists Association to showcase their competition winners. It’s exciting to hear them at the very beginning of a promising career! This season, we welcome the 2017 winner of the APA Christel DeHaan Classical Fellowship – one of the most coveted prizes in the music world.
*April 15, 2018 – WindSync
The young and adventurous WindSync has distinguished itself among classical music ensembles as North America’s foremost emerging wind quintet, thrilling sold-out audiences with their dramatic and engaging interpretations of great composers. (WindSync will also perform for our annual Third Grade Educational Concerts on April 16, 2018.)
May 20, 2018 (2pm) • May 22, 2018 (7:30pm) – Sierra Master Chorale & Orchestra – Spring Concerts
It will be another superb performance, details to come later! Every season, Conductor Ken Hardin challenges the choir with works that are compelling and fascinating for the audience, as well as the members of the Sierra Master Chorale and Orchestra.
Our special performances, house concerts, educational seminars and benefit events will be announced shortly.
