John Neufeld, composer has been a professional musician for over half a century, beginning his work as a musician at the age of sixteen. Since that time, he has participated in many facets of the profession, both as instrumentalist and composer. Composing has been something that he did mostly on his days off, except for a few years when he was engaged in underscoring television shows with Artie Kane for old productions such as Love Boat, Dynasty, and Hotel. As an instrumentalist, he has performed in symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, and as a soloist. The majority of his work was with the Hollywood studio orchestras, where he recorded for film, television, and sound recordings. Some of the many well known films that he worked on as a player or orchestrator include My Fair Lady, Spartacus, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, and Star Wars.
Neufeld’s experiences either as instrumentalist or orchestrator include working for or with such musicians as Igor Stravinsky, Pierre Boulez, John Williams, James Horner, Sir Neville Marriner, and Michael Tilson Thomas. Neufeld is now retired and living in Cambria, California, where he enjoys continuing his lifelong practice in music. His latest composition, Three Pieces on “Seedlings” by Maria Apostoles, was written especially for the InConcert Sierra Orchestra.
We were very pleased to have John Neufeld and Maria Apostoles in the audience last September!
