2025-26 Concerts

Please note: concert venue will be the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Grass Valley or as otherwise noted until we are able to move into our new Hardin Hall at Crown Point Venues.
This season is one of exciting transitions for InConcert Sierra as we construct a new facility for our concerts, as well as an economic and artistic asset for the region.

We seek your understanding as we move through this transitional phase!

CMS: Beethoven Journey
Juho Pohjonen, piano • Kristin Lee, violin • Arnaud Sussmann, violin/viola • David Finckel, cello
The artistic evolution of Ludwig van Beethoven changed the course of music and nowhere is that stunning transformation experienced better than in this all-Beethoven performance. From this program, one can sense the tremendous vitality that would propel him to stardom within a decade. Beethoven’s hand also broadened the possibilities of both the sonata for violin and piano and the piano trio, here illustrated by his last and greatest example, the “Archduke.”

InConcert Sierra is proud to partner with Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and to be one of 12 residencies across the United States – the only on the west coast. CMS is celebrated for its high-quality performances, innovative programming, and international roster of artists, influencing and shaping the chamber music world for over 50 years.

Frisson
Frisson features the best and brightest of classical music’s stars and in just a few seasons they have emerged as one of the most popular chamber music groups in America. The group showcases emerging young artists as well as seasoned professionals. Many of the members have performed at the Marlboro, Verbier, Spoleto, and Mostly Mozart festivals as well as at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Several of the members of Frisson have been chosen to be part of Carnegie Hall’s prestigious Ensemble Connect program and many have gone on to hold principal positions in such ensembles as the Cleveland Orchestra and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

Frisson has been called “the classical group that does it all” and they perform engaging programs for winds, piano trio and piano quartet, octets and nonets. Known for their dynamic performances and variety, Frisson’s virtuoso players will present Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, narrated by our own Micah Cone!

CMS: Quintet Revelations
WuHan, piano • Chad Hoopes and Richard Lin, violins • Milena Pájaro-Van de Stadt, violin • Dmitri Atapine, cello
The piano quintet is a powerhouse chamber ensemble, combining the sonic richness of a string quartet with the symphonic aura of grand piano. Inspired by Robert Schumann’s early example, composers from the early Romantic age all the way through the 21st century have contributed significantly to the genre. Russian master Anton Arensky, a teacher of Rachmaninoff, penned his sole quintet in his mature years, and the ever-popular champion of French music, Camille Saint-Saëns, began his prolific chamber music career with this quintet of surprising skill and maturity. Bracing violin duos by virtuosos of the Baroque and Classical eras serve as effervescent quintet preludes.
